What better way to celebrate the first day of December than by sharing a fun, quick and easy breakfast recipe for the holidays! Easy Cinnamon Roll Christmas Trees!
Not only are these tasty breakfast rolls quick and easy to make but they are also delicious and use only two basic ingredients. A tin of refrigerated Cinnamon rolls and some colored sprinkles to decorate them.
Here in Canada and America the most popular refrigerated Cinnamon rolls are the Pillsbury ones, which come in quite a few varieties. You can get them in a larger Cinnabon type which makes five rolls and has a cream cheese frosting (this is what I used) or you can get the regular ones which make 8.
I am sure there are also other varieties as well, but that is all that are available here where I live. Both are very good.
In the UK you could use the Jus Rol Cinnamon Swirls refrigerated dough, which is actually made from puff pastry, which is even better! I mean . . . Puff Pastry, it doesn't get much better than that!
They come with a pot of cinnamon paste and a pot of icing sugar and make 6 rolls. You can do exactly the same thing with them and come up with six tasty Cinnamon Roll Christmas Trees!
These were actually incredibly easy to make and would make a really fun breakfast for the holidays. They went together really quickly and I was enjoying a warm one in less than half an hour.
That makes them the perfect breakfast to enjoy along with a hot drink while you are opening up your Christmas gifts on Christmas morning.
They would also make a great treat to enjoy as a group after a festive holiday caroling session around the neighborhood along with hot cups of cocoa!
One of my favorite memories is of when I first moved to the U.K. Far away from home and family a friend from church invited us to come along with her and a few other friends to sing carols to the shut ins of our church congregation.
We had so much fun doing this and enjoyed a hot drink at some of the houses. How wonderful it would have been to have been able to bring a festive treat such as this to the people we visited! Some really simple holiday cheer!
This would be a great activity for the youth of any church. They would have fun making them up and then delivering them to some of the elderly or shut ins in the neighborhood along with a card and a bit of Christmas cheer!
WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE EASY CINNAMON ROLL CHRISTMAS TREES
Its almost embarrassing to tell you. This is so simple.
1 Tube of refrigerated Cinnamon roll dough
Assorted colored sprinkles
Most refrigerated cinnamon roll doughs come with their own pot of icing. You can color it with food coloring if you wish. Green is popular.
You can dress them up really nicely with an assortment of Christmas sprinkles, or even chopped red and green candied cherries. The possibilities are really endless and only as narrow as your imagination!
HOW TO MAKE EASY CINNAMON ROLL CHRISTMAS TREES
These really are very easy to make. Children can even help out, especially with the decorating!
Preheat the oven to 350*F/180*C/ gas mark 4 (or to the temperature recommended on the can of cinnamon rolls.) Line a large baking tray with some baking parchment.
Crack open the can of cinnamon rolls and try not to jump. Twist open and remove the cinnamon rolls. Set the icing aside and separate the rolls into individual rolls.
Working with one roll at a time, unroll the cinnamon rolls and shape into a tree, beginning at the base and working your way up to the top. Refer to the photos to see how I did it. Make a 2 to 2 1/2 inch row on the bottom, curving up to make the next row, etc. until you get to the top making each row a bit narrower. I ended with the middle curl at the top.
Repeat until you have made a tree shape with them all. Bake according to the package directions.
Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before spreading with the icing from the package. Sprinkle with Christmas Sprinkles and serve!
Notes
You can tint the icing green if you wish. Simply stir a few drops of green food coloring into the container of icing.
These were so much fun. I don't think such a thing existed when my own children were growing up, or when I was a child myself. If they did, my mother never bought them. Making these would have been so much fun to do with my own children.
Maybe I will be lucky enough to have some grandchildren to come over during the holidays this year. I am sure that they would love to lend a hand in putting these together for a family breakfast or brunch!
Not only were these really simple and easy to make, but they were also very delicious. You could dress them up or down as you wish by adding different sprinkles and toppings. They would be really cute with silver dragee stars on top and colored sparkly balls scattered here and there.
As it was the colored sprinkles suited me very well. I hope you will be inspired to want to give these a go for at least one of your holiday breakfasts!
