I'm almost embarassed to call this a recipe.  It's really more of an idea than anything, but what an idea it is and soooooo simple and delicious to make!  Donut Sundaes!  If you have these on the menu, you'll be the most popular cook ever!

I just love the simplicity of this dessert and the fact that it is so easy and so fun to do.   This makes it the perfect dessert for outdoor entertaining, or for kids parties even.

It's as simple as putting a nice storebought glazed, yeast or cake donut on a plate . . .

Topping it with a scoop of ice cream, and then some sauce  . . .  the flavour of which will all depend on your donut.  On a chocolate glazed donut I would use vanilla ice cream, and chocolate sauce . . .

On these raspberry glazed donuts, I used raspberry ripple ice cream and warmed berry jam to spoon over top . . .

With some of those fudgy caramel donuts, you could use vanilla ice cream and a salted caramel sauce and top with some little fudge bits and chopped toasted pecans!

The sprinkles really make them even more fun.  I have used strawberry and meringue bits here along with white chocolate stars!

However you choose to put these together and in whatever combinations, these are guaranteed to please!   Have fun with them!!  Why not have a Donut Sundae Bar at your next cookout and let people make their own!  How fun does that sound!

*Donut Sundaes*
Serves 1

Quantities are given for one serving, but this is so simple and easy you can easily make as many as you like!  Or let people make their own.  Why  not have a Donut Sundae Bar at your next cookout!

For one:
one donut
(Any kind you like, but preferably the type with the hole in the middle,
large not small, and preferably glazed)
one scoop of ice cream (flavour depends on your donut.  For plain donuts, raspberry ripple or some other
fruity type of ice cream. For chocolate donuts, use vanilla ice cream, or chocolate ripple.  Pick and choose what you
think will go together)
Sunday topping (warmed jam, chocolate sauce, salted caramel sauce, whichever will go well with your chosen
donut and ice cream.)
Ice cream and cupcake sprinkles, or toasted chopped nuts, whipped cream etc.

It's as simple as this.  Put the donut on a plate.  Top with a scoop of ice cream.  Drizzle on the sauce, Top with the sprinkles.  Serve and eat.

  3. The women of the house made musical noises of appreciation upon seeing this recipe. If you should ever come to Ottawa, I suggest Suzy Q doughnuts for the base. They are divine.
