A Delicious Round of up Holiday Breakfast Options

I thought it would be fun to share with you this morning some of my tastier ideas of things to serve for breakfast on Christmas morning. In all likelihood you already have something planned, but there is a chance that some of you are still trying to make up your minds.

Here are some of my favourite breakfast ideas. My family and friends always loved these options and whether you are only a few or a group of many, all will go down a real treat!  With a cup of something hot and a glass of cold juice and some fruit, let the merriment begin!

Savoury Breakfast Bake

Savoury Breakfast Bake. This is a simple breakfast casserole that comes in very handy when you are having overnight guests.

You put it together the night before and then leave it in the refrigerator overnight, ready to pop into the oven first thing in the  morning.  This way you can enjoy a leisurely beverage and some time with your guests instead of sweating it out in the kitchen.

Browned sausage meat is then layered between flakey buttery croissants along with some sauteed mushrooms, spring onions and cheese. A flavourful egg custard is poured over top.

You make it up the night before, cover and store in the refrigerator, ready to take out in the morning and bake. You can find that recipe here.

Blueberry and Almond Breakfast Bake. Enticing, heartwarming and a beauty to behold. This pleases me on lots of levels. Eggy and lightly sweetened with a crisp and sweet sugared almond topping. Delicious!

You need to plan ahead with this as it needs to be refrigerated overnight. The hardest thing about it will be waiting for it to come out of the oven as it smells fabulous while it is baking!

This makes it a perfect Christmas morning breakfast bake. You can find that recipe here. Its delicious!

Breakfast Biscuit Casserole

Breakfast Biscuit Casserole. This fabulous breakfast casserole used up the leftover Black Pepper Biscuits that we had yesterday. You needn't use black pepper biscuits though . . . or scones . . . you can use any you wish, plain, savoury or even sweet.

Yes . . . that is Maple Syrup on mine. Don't judge me. A bit of bacon would have also gone down really well . . . floppy crispy please!

This is delicious, with or without bacon, or with or without syrup.  You can find that tasty recipe here

Apple Pie French Toast. This is an overnight french toast casserole, so do plan ahead.

Although I am sure that if you did it up in the morning it would make a fantastic supper along with some browned sausage and bacon.

Flavourfilled French Toast topped with a scrumptious apple and brown sugar syrupy topping.

No need for maple syrup on this one, although you certainly can indulge if you want to.  See the recipe for this here.

Pandoro French Toast.  This French toast is equally as easy.  You just slice the Pandoro into 3/4 inch thick slices.  So cute, they look like stars . . . some of the slices will be larger in circumference as you get closer to the base of the Pandoro.

Cut those in half for smaller servings. You could also do this with Pannettone.

Pandoro French Toast

This makes a delicious post Christmas or post Christmas (Boxing Day) breakfast dish, served with warmed up Pigs in Blankets and a warm mincemeat syrup!

The syrup is very easy to make and also delicious. You can find that recipe here

Bacon and Egg McMuffin Casserole. Toasted oasted muffin cubes get put into the baking dish.  You then pour a mixture of beaten eggs, seasoning and milk over top.

Finally you scatter crisp bacon bits over top, some cheddar cheese and then bake.

Bacon & Egg McMuffin Casserole

Cut into squares when baked and served with your favourite breakfast syrup, it goes down a real treat. It really does taste like a McMuffin!

Its one of my absolute favourites. You can find that recipe here

French Toast Crumble.  This is delicious.  You can easily put it together either the night before you want to use it, or early on the day if you are serving it for brunch.

It smells heavenly when it is baking.  Serve hot cut into wedges with fruit, sausage, bacon and syrup.

This is another easy favourite of mine and makes 6 delicious servings. You can also easily double it.

Look for that delicious recipe here. Some juice on the side and  maybe a fruit cup and Bob's your Uncle!

Wholesome Seeded Cranberry Muffins. These Wholesome Seeded Cranberry Muffins are filled with goodness. Plenty of toasted sunflower and pumpkin seeds  . . .  and poppyseeds.

They are both in the batter and sprinkled all over the tops  . . .  along with the crunch of demerara sugar.  I believe that is called Turbinado sugar in North America.  It is a less refined sugar with larger crystals, which make for a perfect crunch.

Combined with the goodness of a bio natural yogurt  . . .  and plenty of sweet dried cranberries, which are full of vitamin C, the fabulously tasty muffins pack a real nutritional punch!

You can bake them ahead and then just reheat briefly in a warm oven or microwave. You can find that tasty recipe here

Gingerbread Muffins. Nothing says Christmas more than the smell of gingerbread cooking and these muffins have that in spades!

They are moist and delicious with a lovely crumb and beautiful ginger/cinnamon flavour.

These would be great with raisins, or with dried cranberries, bits of dried apple  . . .  chopped apricots, dates, nuts . . . etc.

Oh, and I am thinking milk chocolate chips would also be very nice. You can find that tasty recipe here.

Mincemeat and Orange Muesli Muffins. A doddle to put together and yet very special! What you have here is a delicious, moist muffin, flavoured with, ground almonds, some orange marmalade and orange liqueur.

I used Grand Marnier, but you could use any orange liqueur that you like or even just orange juice if you don't want to use alcohol. You don't need a lot, just a teaspoon.  I buy tiny bottles of liqueurs at the grocery shop and keep them for just this purpose.

Mincemeat & Orange Muesli Muffins

The muffin mixture is put into buttered ramekins over the top of mincemeat.  I use a heaped tablespoon per ramekin, which works nicely.  If you dont' like mincemeat, you can use any fruit compote or preserve which you do like.  Apple sauce would work well, or apricot compote . . . rhubarb compote, or even a lovely fruit jam.

Mincemeat however does really make for a beautifully Christmasy flavour.  Find the recipe for these tasty muffins here.

Finally Panettone Muffins. I am having a love affair with Panettone.I really love anything fruity.  And I especially love all of the Christmas fruity goodies like Panettone and fruit cake, mince pies, stollen, etc.

I am good at making all of it disappear too.  They are a weakness I need to work on.

These lovely muffins embody all of the flavours of a delicious Panettone, but without all of the hard work and waiting. A lovely moist cake type of batter.  I use oil, but you could use melted butter if you wanted to.

They would certainly be a lot richer with butter  . . . For this wonderfully fruity recipe, click here.

Blueberry & Vanilla Breakfast Cornbread. One of the reasons I love this Blueberry and Vanilla Breakfast Cornbread as much as I do is the abundance of fresh berries that are used.

I like to bake this cornbread in a ceramic or square glass baking dish. This helps to hold in the warmth while you are waiting for everyone to come downstairs to the breakfast table.

The square dish also makes it very easy to cut into squares. You can also bake it in an 8 inch round cake tin if you want to. You can then cut it into wedges, like a cake or a pie. Also very attractive.

I think it is quite beautiful cut into squares and served warm.  We like it spread with softened butter  and drizzled with liquid honey.  Especially pure clover honey. You can find the recipe here.

Proper Ham & Eggs. You can't go too far wrong with this. It certainly pleases the heartier appetites in the house!

One nice thick slice of ham/gammon.  Fried in butter until golden brown on both sides.  The fatty edge getting all stick and sweet from the marmalade glaze.

The only real decision you have to make when frying the eggs is to cook and serve them sunny side up, the whites softly set and the yolks beautifully runny, or to flip them over and serve them over easy . . .  both with a golden brown lacy frill around the edges.

One thing is for certain, they are sure to be well received by all. You can find the recipe here

Scrambled Eggs Benedict. If you like Eggs Benedict as much as I like Eggs Benedict you will be in Eggs Benedict heaven with this.

Your family will love this and you will love the ease of creating it.  It makes the perfect Christmas morning holiday breakfast.  Elegant, delicious,  and yet . . .  so very simple.

scrambled eggs benedict

A simple and yet special breakfast for a special morning that won't stress you out.  It tastes and looks like you spent all day, but is so simple.  Who knew elegant could be so simple!

There are certainly many, many more options available here on the blog for delicious breakfasts you can make for your family over the holidays. These are just some of my favourites. In any case I hope that you enjoy and that you have a very Merry Christmas!  Stay safe and stay healthy!

Merry Christmas

  2. Those Gingerbread Muffins look so good - I love gingerbread and can see me eating them with home made lemon curd.

We have a special bread we eat for Christmas Eve breakfast (we celebrate the Eve rather than the Day here) - a rich spiced rye bread studded with raisins. We eat it with edam and some people also add thinly sliced ham. And we have sweet, warm saffron buns. That golden colour is a perfect to the inky darkness outside.

I hope that you and your family have a lovely Christmas. Thank you so much for your generosity in all that you share with us. I do hope that the coming year brings you some peace and happiness. Merry Christmas!

    1. Lemon Curd is wonderful on any kind of gingerbread and would be lovely on these muffins Marie. Your Christmas feast sounds lovely and cosy. Many European cultures do celebrate on Christmas Eve which is lovely I think. I hope you and Lars have a beautiful Christmas and that you enjoy your time with your family via Zoom or Facetime! Merry Christmas! xoxo

  3. It all looks so good! I will probably end up doing what I do every year: bacon, eggs, juice of some sort, coffee and cinnamon rolls. I love breakfast casseroles and such, but picky hubby does not. Merry Christmas Eve!

  4. These all look so good. This year we are foregoing the breakfast strata/casserole -- it's just the two of us. Rick will handle much of breakfast but I will bring fruit salad and today I'm making your maple oatmeal muffins -- some to share with my neighbors who have Covid and some for us. I know this is a different Christmas for you but I also hope you find the merry. Much love.
