This Sunday is Mothering Sunday here in the UK, or Mother's Day as it is called in other parts of the world. I know . . . . totally different than when it is celebrated in North America. This provides a bit of a conundrum for me. It means that I have to buy my mother here Mother's Day card a whole two months before I need to, but experience has taught me that if I neglect to do that . . . I won't find one come the North American Mother's Day in May.
The people at debbie & andrew's sausages asked me if I would like to use some of their sausages to make a delicious Mother's Day dish this year and I said I would love to! I adore their sausages. Wheat and gluten free and created from only the best cuts of British Pork, these are the sausages I buy all the time. And why do I buy them? Because we like them. It's as simple as that.
They provided me with a couple of recipes that I could have made for the day, but I decided to go with my own inspiration and create something which is not only delicious but also something that Dad and the kids could quite easily throw together on the morning so that they could give mom a rest and a deliciously different breakfast in bed!
It's kind of like a baked breakfast pancake/bread . . . stogged full of crumbled cooked sausage and I know . . . from this photograph, it doesn't look very exciting does it.
I would agree . . . but kick it up a notch with some butter andsyrup . . .
And it becomes even more appealing . . . . don't you think?
Add some sliced peaches in syrup and you have one very happy mother! You could actually get all of the ingredients assembled the night before so that all dad and the kiddlets have to do is to toss them together in the morning. Dry in one bowl . . . wet in another . . . sausage already browned and crumbled.
I don't think dad could mess this up . . . especially if you talk him through it on his own the day before. Everyone's a winner. The kiddos feel they are doing something special. Dad feels like he is helping them to do it . . . and mom gets a nice breakfast in bed handed to her by her loving family on the day.
It really is delicious.
*Sausage Breakfast Bake*
Serves 6 to 8
(about 1/2 pound)
140g of plain flour (1 cup)
To serve:
butter and pancake syrup
Preheat the oven to 220*C/425*F/ gas mark 6. Butter a 9 inch square baking pan really well. Set aside.
As ever debbie & andrew's offer "A Real Taste of Country", which means that they use only the most succulent cuts of pork (from British Red Tractor Farms, of course). As an extra bonus and to remove the need to cook a separate meal for people with food intolerances, their whole range is also now wheat gluten and dairy free! It's all about making your life simple, so that you can serve deliciously meaty treats without a second thought!
Be sure to check out their website where you can find all of their products and a delicious assortment of recipes. You can also find their products in ASDA, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Ocado.
